Repetition in spiritual practices
Hare Krsna, Prabhuji, Dandavat Pranam,
Sravanam is one of the 9 ways in devotional service and is the only way recommended in Kaliyuga for all living entities as mentioned in Srimad Bhagavatam and other Puranas, in the form of Harinam Sankirtan.
Because by Sravanam i.e by hearing we can see Lord Sri Krsna. Through Hearing, we understand the Lord.
As recommended by our spiritual Guru Srila Prabuupada, I daily listen to Srimad Bhagavatam and try to hear chanting of Harinama, read his books and eat only Prasadam.
Question is why repetition is recommended to understand the Lord ?
Because when I want to know how the food tastes, I only eat a sample of it, and can immediately experience the taste of that food. There is instant experience in the material world.
But same is not the case in the spiritual world. We have to repeat and repeat, the devotional activities so we can finally taste the name of the Lord.
Its a basic question, Prabhuji, from my ignorant level, so please help me to understand this.

Food reveals it’s taste to anyone and everyone. But unlike food, Krishna does not reveal himself to anyone and everyone. He reveals himself out of his causeless mercy. Our repetition is like knocking on the door. Person behind the door is fully independent. It’s his sweet will when and how he will open the door for us. We repeat to show our eagerness, to show our sincerity, our hunger and we patiently wait for Krishna to reveal himself mercifully before us.
नाहं प्रकाश: सर्वस्य योगमायासमावृत: ।
मूढोऽयं नाभिजानाति लोको मामजमव्ययम् ॥ २५ ॥I am never manifest to the foolish and unintelligent. For them I am covered by My internal potency, and therefore they do not know that I am unborn and infallible.
Some day he will give us intelligence to understand him.
तेषां सततयुक्तानां भजतां प्रीतिपूर्वकम् ।
ददामि बुद्धियोगं तं येन मामुपयान्ति तेTo those who are constantly(repetition) devoted to serving Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me.
